"Dad! Can you put my shirt on for me?" called Kiko.
Dad was busy making breakfast. "You are big enough to try," he said. "Have a go, and call me if you get stuck."
Kiko pulled the shirt over his head. Oops! His arm went into the hole for his head, and the label was at the front.
Kiko felt cross. He wanted to give up.
Then he remembered Dad's tip: label at the back, head first, then one arm, then the other. He tried again, slowly. Head... one arm... two arms!
Then his socks, toes first, and his shoes, the right one on the right foot.
Kiko ran into the kitchen. "I did it all by myself!"
Dad gave him a big high five, and Kiko felt as tall as a tree. The next day, he did it even faster.
What Kiko learned
Doing things by yourself can feel hard at first. Go slowly, try again, and soon it gets easy. The proud feeling at the end is worth it.
Talk about it
- What went wrong the first time Kiko tried?
- What was Dad's tip?
- What can you already do all by yourself?
Try it this week
Get dressed by yourself every morning. Colour a star each day you do it.
